The Joint Information Platform for Natural Hazards (GIN) has its legal basis in Article 3 of the Ordinance of 11 November 2020 on Civil Protection (Civil Protection Ordinance; SR 520 12), which in turn is based on the Federal Act on Civil Protection and Civil Defence (SR 520.1). The GIN platform is coordinated by the Intervention against Natural Hazards Steering Committee, which is made up of representatives from various federal offices. Its secretariat is run by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The GIN platform is also run by the FOEN.

No guarantee for the accuracy and completeness of content
The operator of the GIN platform (FOEN) checks the data, information and products (services) published on the platform in accordance with the legal requirements and in good faith. However, no guarantee can be given for the accuracy and completeness of content.
No liability for damages
The GIN platform serves to inform the public. The operator of the GIN platform is not liable for any damages arising from its use. Furthermore, the operator of the GIN platform accepts no responsibility for the content of third-party websites linked from the platform.
Use of content
The aim of the GIN platform is to help safeguard the public from the effects of extreme weather events or other natural hazards. It must be used exclusively to serve this purpose. Any other use of its content, in particular for commercial purposes, is not permitted. The content is protected under the Swiss Copyright Act (CopA; SR 231.1); specifically, further dissemination of the copyrighted content of the GIN platform is, in principle, not permitted or is only permitted with the express consent of the operator, i.e. the FOEN (Art. 4 para. 1, Art. 10 para. 1 CopA).
Applicable law
Any legal disputes between the users and the operator of the GIN platform resulting from visiting or using the said platform shall be governed exclusively by Swiss law.
