Legal framework

The Joint Information Platform for Natural Hazards (GIN) has its legal basis in Article 3 of the Ordinance of 11 November 2020 on Civil Protection (Civil Protection Ordinance; SR 520 12), which in turn is based on the Federal Act on Civil Protection and Civil Defence (SR 520.1). The GIN platform is coordinated by the Intervention against Natural Hazards Steering Committee, which is made up of representatives from various federal offices. Its secretariat is run by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The GIN platform is also run by the FOEN.
