Login

• When will I receive the access data?

  If you have an eIAM account or have successfully created one, you can log on to www.gin.admin.ch and request your access to GIN via the online form. Your access request will then be checked by the GIN office. As soon as your access is activated, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. This may take several working days.

• Who has access rights?

  GIN is aimed at federal, cantonal and communal authorities. Natural hazard experts of all three levels have access to GIN free of charge after registration. In addition, the following actors can gain access:

  • Emergency services
  • Swiss civil defence
  • Swiss armed forces
  • Cantonal technical staffs
  • Natural hazard advisors of the municipalities
  • Regional command staffs
  • Mountain railways
  • Private engineering offices

• I already have an eIAM account. Do I need additional access data?

  No. If you already have an eIAM account or use a federal smartcard, you can register for GIN directly with this data. Log on to www.gin.admin.ch and apply for access to GIN via the online form.

• Is it possible to log in without a two-factor authentication (SMS code)?

  Yes. To do this, open your eIAM My Account settings and disable two-factor authentication there.

• I have a new e-mail address. Do I have to request new access data?

  No. You can change your email address via the eIAM My Account settings.

• I have forgotten my password. What shall I do?

  For users without a federal smartcard: Start the login process and click on “Forgot password.” For users with a federal smartcard: Contact the issuer of your smartcard to reset your password.

• I had a login in the past but can no longer log in. What do I need to do?

• What data is included in GIN?

  GIN provides detailed data on weather, water, snow and earthquakes:

  • Weather data: Bulletins (bulletins on natural dangers, detailed forecast), air pressure (measured/forecast), precipitation (measured/forecast), gust peak, wind speed and direction (measured/forecast), satellite imagery (cloud top temperature, IR imagery and visible satellite imagery), air and soil moisture and reflected shortwave radiation.
  • Water data: Bulletins (hydrological bulletin, weekly forecast of the FOEN), discharge, water level and lake level (each measured / predicted), statistics (comparison with flood statistics) and water temperature. 
    
  • Snow data: Bulletins (avalanche bulletin, advance warnings), new snow (measured, modelled, predicted), snow line (radar), snow depth (point data on stations and radar), snow hydrology (around snow water equivalent), water value, snow load, snow temperature (point data) and surface hoar frost, snow density and moisture, temperature and observations. 
    
  • Earthquakes: Current earthquakes (no predictions).

• How do the email and push notifications work?

  Check our video tutorial on YouTube. You can subscribe to push notifications for measurement data, forecasts, station parameters, bulletins, warnings and events. This way you are always up to date when there is news or, e.g., a certain threshold is exceeded. Push messages can be sent to your smartphone as well as to your local PC or tablet computer. You determine which messages arrive where, e.g., you can activate push messages on your local PC but deactivate them on your smartphone for the same account. Push messages can be activated in the GIN settings (cogwheel symbol at the top right).

• Can I take part in GIN training courses?

  Yes. For the introduction to the Common Information Platform on Natural Hazards GIN, training courses are held regularly (in German as well as in French). Information and dates of the next training courses can be found here.
